About the race
The Virginia Creeper Marathon is a scenic, low-key marathon held on the Virginia Creeper Trail in Abingdon, Virginia. The course follows a former railroad bed featuring a flat to gentle grade and a soft running surface, including occasional wooden trestles. The race consists of two out-and-back segments with multiple turnaround points accessible by car, allowing family and friends to easily support runners.
Aid stations are spaced every 3 to 3.5 miles, offering water, sports drinks, refreshments, and homemade goodies. The event provides minimal amenities but awards top finishers by gender and age groups. The course is USATF certified and qualifies for Boston Marathon standards.
