Wild Azalea Trail Challenge : January 3, 2026

The Wild Azalea Trail Challenge takes place Saturday, January 3, 2026, in the Evangeline Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest near Alexandria, Louisiana (Valentine Lake). This is the 14th annual running of the event. The Wild Azalea Trail is 26 miles long and is described as the longest continuous trail in the state of Louisiana. The event includes both trail running and mountain biking.

Course and logistics

The trail system is mapped and described as well maintained, with visible half-mile markers. Course terrain passes through several ecosystems, including lower hardwood sections with creeks and higher, hillier areas with Longleaf Pines. The stated cut-off for all races is 8:00 pm (14 hours for the 50-mile event). Registration closes Friday, January 2 at 11:59 PM CT. All participants receive a Wild Azalea T-shirt; a lightweight hoodie is available for purchase. Race updates and participant information are posted on the event Facebook group.
