Willie Mccool Memorial Half-Marathon

The Willie McCool Memorial Half-Marathon, 5K & 10K is an annual running event held in Lubbock, Texas, with the Silent Wings Museum serving as the scenic start and finish location. Named in honor of Willie McCool, pilot of the Space Shuttle Columbia and a Lubbock native, the race offers multiple distances including a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and youth races. The half marathon course takes runners through the Lubbock Business Park, past the tree-lined Lubbock Country Club, and through the countryside west of the airport, symbolically "traveling into outer space." The 5K and 10K courses loop around the "Galaxy," returning to the museum.
