Format, course and rules
Runners complete repeated laps of 4.16 miles per yard, each yard having about 30 ft of elevation gain. Each new yard begins every hour on the hour; runners must be in the start corral and start at the bell to continue. Races continue until one runner completes more yards than all others; if no runner completes one more yard than everyone else, there is no winner. Key rules include warnings at 3, 2 and 1 minute before each start, no late starts, no non-participants on course, no assistance after the bell until the yard is complete, no artificial aids (including trekking poles), and no leaving the course except for restrooms until a loop is finished. Course maps and a GPX file are available on mapping platforms such as Strava, AllTrails and CalTopo. Runners who order during registration receive event swag; the winner, if there is one, receives a special award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
