Event overview
The CAN the Bird 5K Turkey Trot is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia. The race begins and ends in the Walmart parking lot at 5885 Kingstowne Boulevard and follows a route around Kingstowne and its lake. The event is timed and managed by Commonwealth Race Management/PR Races. Participants are asked to bring a canned food item; donations of nonperishable items will be accepted by Koinonia. All participants receive a commemorative race t-shirt. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, top three male and female in 12 & Under and 13-18 age groups, and the fastest male and female runner with a dog and with a stroller.

Registration has three pricing periods with different fees by age and category: Early Bird (through October 17), Standard (October 18 - November 21), and Last Chance (November 22 - 27). Fee examples include Adult 5K: $30 early bird, $35 standard, $40 last chance; Military 5K: $25 early bird, $30 standard, $35 last chance; youth pricing and 12 & under pricing also apply. Online registration closes on November 27; only online registration is accepted. Packet pickup locations are Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5775 Castlewellan Drive (scheduled dates with afternoon hours), and Walmart, 5885 Kingstowne Blvd on race day.
