Event overview
The event offers chip-timed races at the Carderock Recreation Area along the C&O Canal Towpath in Potomac, MD. Distances offered:
- 5k - chip timed, finisher’s medal, technical event shirt
- 10k - chip timed, finisher’s medal, technical event shirt
- Half marathon - chip timed, finisher’s medal, technical event shirt
Points from the races count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, Back of the Pack Series and the Spring Series. A virtual race option is available. The race benefits Project Blackbird, a nonprofit that provides therapy and resources and seeks to encourage conversations about mental illness and eating disorders within underrepresented communities.
Course and logistics
All routes use the C&O Canal path, a light gravel dirt trail. Each course is out-and-back with minimal elevation gain. Water stations are provided as follows: ten stations on the half marathon (mile markers given), four on the 10k, and one on the 5k; Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are by the main parking lot. There is parking within the recreation area across four parking lots; the event location GPS pin is 38.972563, -77.198738. Packet pickup is available at the event. There will be no on-site race registration. Live results are posted online with a QR code at the race; final results and series points are posted the Monday after the race.
