Event overview

The Crown Stub 100 is a 100-mile ultramarathon held October 4, 2025, based at Stub Stewart State Park near Buxton, Oregon. The course includes over 10,000 ft of elevation gain and runs on a mix of trail surfaces. The event uses state and regional trails and park singletrack as its route.

Course and route

The route is a double out-and-back from the park that uses the Banks Vernonia State Trail (BVT), the Crown Zellerbach Trail (Crown Z Trail), and park dirt trails. The BVT is described as primarily asphalt; the Crown Z Trail is primarily hard-packed gravel; about 10% of the course is on the park’s dirt trails. Runners travel north on the BVT into Vernonia, pass around Vernonia Lake, then follow the Crown Z Trail east for roughly twenty miles before turning back near Scappoose. After retracing to the Stub Stewart Park crossing (noted as mile 72), the route continues south on the BVT for about 10 miles to Banks, returns to the park (around mile 92), then follows the BVT nearly one mile before turning right onto the Boomscooter Trail toward the Hill Top Day Use area (mile 93.5). The final segment is one lap of the 6.5-mile Stub Stewart Trail Challenge course to complete the 100-mile distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
