The course allows running or walking through downtown holiday lights; parts of the route are a little dark, so participants are encouraged to bring a headlamp. Event swag and on-course items include a race shirt (while supplies last; shirt deadline Nov. 12), a finisher medal, a light-up holiday beanie, a holiday hat for the first 800 at pre-race packet pickup, cookies, and a glow necklace. Free pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus are provided. Awards for the 5K include top three male and female finishers and top three in age groups (10 & Under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+). The 1 Mile awards top boy and top girl (12 and under). A costume contest for adult and child is judged by audience applause. The Downtown Wilmington Holidays on the Water drone show follows the event, with best viewing along Water Street from Grace Street to Dock Street. Proceeds benefit the Coastal Horizons Open House Youth Shelter and Toys for Tots. Parking is any legal available spot in downtown Wilmington.
