Event overview
The Dempsey Dash 5K and 1K Fun Run takes place on March 14, 2026 at Brenau University Amphitheater in Gainesville, GA (102 Prior Street, 30501). The event is held in memory of the university’s long-time executive vice president and CFO and benefits the Wayne W. Dempsey Endowed Scholarship Fund. The race is certified with certification number GA24002DJ. The course is flat and consists of two loops around the Brenau University campus. Official event shirts are provided for all participants who preregister by February 20; additional shirts are available through race day while supplies last. Participant bags and shirts are available for pickup on Saturday at registration/check-in.

The 5K includes separate entry categories for friends, family & community; students; employees; and a phantom runner/donation/shirt purchase option. The 1K fun run includes categories for friends, family & community; students and employees; and a children’s category open to ages 10 and under. Registration opens November 14, 2025. Awards for the 5K include overall male and female winners and top male and female in each age group: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+.
