The event is organized by employees of Boeing Smithfield to benefit Fayette Friends of Animals, a local no-kill shelter. The stated goal is to raise funds and awareness for the shelter and its mission to care for animals and find them homes.
Awards are given to the top three overall men and women in both the run and walk categories. Age-group awards are offered in these ranges: 1-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
