About the race
FlatRock in Independence, Kansas offers a rugged, historic trail ultramarathon series on the Elk River Hiking Trail. FlatRock is the first and oldest trail ultra in Kansas. Distances include 50K, 25K, 12K and 5K, with a challenging, single-track out-and-back course through limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas.
The event features a FlatRock Triple Crown series—WinterRock 25K, FlatRock101K, and FlatRock50K—with a special award for finishers who complete all three. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drinks; soups and sandwiches; multiple checkpoints. Pre-race dinner, photos, and volunteer and military discounts add to the community atmosphere.
