Course, logistics and rules
The event headquarters and start/finish are at New Hope Christian Church. The course uses the Chestnut Ridge Loop Trail and adjacent roads. The Chestnut Ridge Loop is described as a 5.6-mile single track loop around the Roanoke Mountain Campground, noted as fast and flowy and suitable for a January trail event. The course includes a water/Gatorade station at mile 3.4. Packet pickup is scheduled at local locations on 1/8 and 1/9 and at the church on race day. Rules include no dogs, bibs must be worn on the front and visible, no short cutting, and no amplified music on course; personal music players with headphones are allowed if the wearer remains aware of surroundings. Awards are given to top finishers and to top three in 13 age groups, with separate recognition for the first 40+ male and female finishers. Course records are maintained separately for clockwise and counter-clockwise runs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
