Highball to Thurmond Ultra
The Highball to Thurmond Ultra & Relay is a unique trail running event held in New River Gorge National Park, West Virginia. Scheduled for May 18, 2025, it features a 50-mile ultra marathon, a 50K race, and a 50-mile relay. The 50-mile race starts in Montgomery and finishes in the historic railroad town of Thurmond, with about 6,000 feet of elevation gain across a mix of paved roads, mountain dirt roads, and scenic trails.
The 50K begins at Hawks Nest State Park and also finishes in Thurmond, offering a challenging yet beginner-friendly course with 3,100 feet of elevation gain. Participants can enjoy well-stocked aid stations, finisher medals, awards, and the option to take a scenic train ride back to the start line. The relay allows teams of 2-4 runners to share the 50-mile course with flexible handoff points.
