Course
The course begins at Boulder Beach Special Events Beach (BBQ area) and follows the River Mountains Loop Trail before joining the Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail near mile 3. Runners pass through several old railroad tunnels on a hard-packed dirt trail that sits on a ridge overlooking Lake Mead and the marina. The route continues past an area with power plants, then descends six switchbacks to the upper level parking garage at Hoover Dam, where runners loop counterclockwise along the dam edge before returning the same way.
Marathoners complete two loops of the described circuit. Packed-dirt trail makes up roughly 14 miles of the full marathon and about 7 miles of the half; the remainder is paved asphalt. The organizing team recommends a sturdy road running shoe; trail shoes are not necessary. The finish area is at the covered BBQ area at Boulder Beach, where awards and finish-line food are provided.
