Iron Mountain Trail Run
The Iron Mountain Trail Run is a challenging trail race held annually in Damascus, Virginia, featuring four distance options: 16, 30, 40, and 50 miles. The course traverses the Iron Mountain ridgeline through Jefferson National Forest, following sections of the former Appalachian Trail with varied terrain from easy running on the VA Creeper Trail to technical single track. The 50-mile race includes approximately 8,000 feet of elevation gain.
The event is USATF-sanctioned and includes aid stations and a post-race meal. Due to recent hurricane damage, the 2025 race course is modified and slightly shorter. Runners must navigate road crossings independently, and the race emphasizes safety on steep, rugged trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
