Course and logistics
Courses follow the historic Western States trail and the banks and canyons of the American River. Routes cross No Hands Bridge and include named climbs such as K2 and the series of switchbacks called Dam Hill. Most terrain is moderately technical dirt single-track and fire roads. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted.
Aid stations provide a selection of energy products and snacks, including energy gels, Stroopwafels, trail mix, chips, PB&J sandwiches, water, and Skratch Labs hydration mix. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup. Drop bag service is not available. Early bib pickup is offered the day before at Fleet Feet - Roseville, with additional check-in at Overlook Park on race morning. Parking is free within the park and on adjacent streets. Dogs on leash are allowed in the park; runners with dogs must start at the back of the pack. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
