Event overview

The KU Vets Day 5K is an annual race hosted by the KU Student Veterans of America and the Veterans Alumni Network. The 2025 event honors the Semiquincentennial (250th birthday) of the Army, Navy and Marines and is the 14th running of the Vets Day 5K. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation and accommodates runners, walkers, ruckers, strollers and wheelchair racers. All proceeds support the KU Student Veterans of America chapter, the KU Veterans Alumni Network and the Lt. Gen. William K. Jones Military-Affiliated Student Center.

Logistics and details

The race start and finish will take place at the Jayhawk Welcome Center, 1266 Oread Avenue, Lawrence, KS 66045, due to construction at Memorial Stadium. A finisher's medal will be given to participants regardless of finish time. Participants receive a t-shirt while supplies last. Awards for first and second place by gender are available, and age-group awards are given in five-year increments (with special ranges for ages 1-10 and 80+). Packet pickup locations and times: Friday, Nov. 7, noon-5 p.m., 345 Summerfield Hall (1300 Sunnyside Avenue); Saturday, Nov. 8, noon-5 p.m., Ad Astra Running Company (835 Massachusetts Street); Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Jayhawk Welcome Center. Free parking is available in the Mississippi/Union Parking Garage; Oread Avenue will be closed for the event and Mississippi Street will serve as the garage entrance and exit.
