Ridge to Rails event overview
The Ridge to Rails event in Old Fort, North Carolina includes trail races on a mix of new and established trails in the Old Fort Gateway and Mill Creek Valley areas. Courses use trails and forest service roads such as Star Gap, Bernard Mountain, Kitsuma, Point Lookout, Copper Ridge, Rostan, Salt Gap, Jarrett Creek Road and Mill Creek Road. The 50k is a single large loop. The half marathon is a point-to-point net downhill trail course that descends roughly 2,600 ft over the route. The 10k is a figure-8 loop contained within the Old Fort Gateway Trail system. Courses include some short stretches of gravel and a mix of smooth and technical trail terrain.

Elevation gain and loss: 50k ~ 5,700 ft gain and 5,700 ft loss; Half ~ 1,200 ft gain and ~2,600 ft loss; 10k ~ 750 ft gain and 750 ft loss. Time limits are published for each distance (50k ~ 11 hours, Half ~ 4 hours, 10k ~ 2.5 hours). Aid station coverage: five on the 50k (including one water-only), two on the half (one water-only), and one on the 10k. Parking is at Camp Grier, Old Fort. Half-marathon runners must use the race shuttle to the start; there is no parking at the half start. Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the race in Old Fort and on race morning.
