Sassafras 8 Mile
The Sassafras 8 Mile Challenge is a demanding mountain race held at the Rocky Bottom Retreat Center in Sunset, South Carolina. This event features an 8-mile course that includes a steep, winding road climb to the summit of Sassafras Mountain—the highest point in South Carolina—followed by a scenic trail descent. Runners experience significant elevation gain and panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain views.
The race offers a finisher medal, custom bib, race photos, and a festive post-race party with music and pancakes. It is part of the Upstate Race Series and supports the Upstate Running Club Youth Team, providing a unique challenge for trail and mountain runners in a beautiful natural setting.
