The Barkley Fall Classic - September 19, 2026
The Barkley Fall Classic is a 50-kilometer trail race at Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee. The course is not fully revealed until the night before the race and includes numerous climbs and descents, long runnable sections, and limited markings at major turns. The event is designed to mirror elements of the Barkley Marathons, with a decision point where runners may choose to finish a shorter route or continue on to complete the 50K. Male and female winners receive guaranteed entry slots in the Big Barkley in the spring.
Rules and logistics
The race enforces strict rules for safety and course integrity: GPS devices are prohibited; pacers and running as bandits are not allowed; trekking poles and drop bags or caching are not permitted; littering is prohibited. Runners must wear a visible bib on their back, report to staff if they drop, and report to the finish timing tent to avoid triggering search procedures. A working flashlight is required for runners who choose to continue past the decision point. An 80% refund is noted for requests before June 1. Packet pickup occurs the day before and on race morning. Camping and local lodging options are available near Frozen Head State Park, and some race proceeds benefit Morgan County and the state park.
