The Great Turkey Chase - Overview
The Horace Mann PTA is hosting the 5th annual Great Turkey Chase 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Washington, DC. The event takes place at Horace Mann, 4430 Newark St NW, and includes these events:
- 5K Run
- 5K Mann Students/Faculty/Staff
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- 1 Mile Fun Run Mann Students/Faculty/Staff
The event raises funds for the Horace Mann PTA. Over 75% of PTA fundraising dollars go toward salaries for partner teachers and specialists not provided by DCPS. Funds also support programs such as gardening and language, professional development, classroom enrichment, and facility enhancements. Students can collect donations for a grade competition with prizes listed as Pajama Day and a Pizza Party. There is an option to add a donation for the grade competition and to indicate the student name and grade for credit.
Logistics and registration
Standard entry fees shown are $50 and Mann student/faculty/staff fees are $20. Prices for some events increase after November 9, 2025 at 11:59 pm EST. Registration for the Mann student/faculty/staff events closes November 16, 2025 at 9:00 am EST. Registrations may be allocated to Mann staff and families with assistance from the Principal based on need.
T-shirt size selections and printed racing bibs cannot be guaranteed for registrations after October 21. Packet pick-up at Horace Mann is scheduled:
- Wednesday, November 12: 3:00 - 4:00 pm (range, blue picnic tables)
- Thursday, November 13: 8:30 - 9:00 am and 3:00 - 4:00 pm (range, blue picnic tables)
- Friday, November 14: 8:30 - 9:00 am and 3:00 - 4:00 pm (range, blue picnic tables)
- Sunday, November 16: 8:30 - 9:30 am (school main entrance - Newark Ave)
The runs are not on a closed course; participants should keep to sidewalks and use caution while running through the neighborhood. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
