Event overview
The Quest! is a fantasy-themed adventure trail run organized by Bad Luck Run Club in Auburn, California on March 7, 2026. The event uses a choose-your-own-path format with hidden bosses, optional side quests, and role-playing elements. The route for each option remains secret until event day.

- 16 miles minimum, about 1500 ft elevation gain.
- 6 miles minimum, about 500 ft elevation gain.
Format and logistics
Runners are assigned a class by a virtual roll before the event; each class has a one-time ability used during boss battles. Participants receive a custom D20 die, a physical and/or digital map, and a runners bib. Bosses are hidden along the course; attendees check in by scanning QR codes and resolve encounters by rolling dice. Side quests are optional challenges that can require phone use, riddles, carrying or finding items, or small activities; completing side quests and winning boss encounters adjust a runner’s final time.
Required or recommended personal gear includes a camera phone for check-ins, a backpack for side-quest items, and a water bottle.
