All proceeds benefit children with special needs at Zachariah's Acres, a 501(c)(3) organization. Zachariah's Acres offers nature-based experiences for children with special needs and their families, including fishing, guided nature walks and rolls through prairie grass and wildflowers, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, hay wagon rides, apple picking, and activities in an educational kitchen. More than 38 schools, nonprofits, and community partners use the facility for field trips and hands-on learning.
Course and logistics
Courses are set on the facility's 125 acres of tree-lined paths with wildflowers, prairie grass, ponds, wildlife, crops, evergreens, and fall colors. The family walk/roll loop is a 1-mile route with gentle hills; jogging strollers or all-terrain wheelchairs are recommended. The property is private and open to the public only on race day; previewing the course beforehand is not allowed.
There are two aid stations on course offering water and sports drink; participants may drop a bag at the turn. The event is chip timed by Silver Circle Sports Events, LLC. Participants registered before September 27 are guaranteed a custom dry wick unisex shirt; later shirts are available while supplies last. Awards include overall male and female medals, age-group medals, and half marathon finisher medals. Post-race offerings include a farm cart with apples, pumpkins, honey, and farm eggs plus coffee and baked goods. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
