The Black Hills 100 is a challenging ultramarathon held annually in late June in Sturgis, South Dakota, along the scenic Centennial Trail (#89) and Deerfield Trail (#40). The event offers four distances: 100 miles, 50 miles, 50 kilometers, and 30 kilometers. The 100-mile race features approximately 108 miles with over 16,700 feet of elevation gain and loss on a rugged out-and-back course starting and finishing in Sturgis.

The terrain includes single-track dirt trails, rocky sections, old logging roads, and ATV trails, with minimal pavement. The 50-mile, 50K, and 30K races are point-to-point courses finishing in Sturgis. The race is known for its relentless hills, beautiful Black Hills scenery, and a unique buffalo skull trophy awarded to top finishers.
