Black Hills Veterans March and Marathon
The Black Hills Veterans March and Marathon is a multi-day endurance event in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It uses the George S. Mickelson Trail and passes through pine forests, crosses converted railroad bridges, and goes through four rock tunnels on a crushed limestone and gravel surface. The event was conceived in 2002 to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s service members. Proceeds are returned to local veterans organizations. Volunteers are used for registration, package pickup, and march support.

The event includes multiple on‑trail distances and a virtual option. The full march and marathon follows the Mickelson Trail from the Rochford trailhead to the Days of ’76 Rodeo Grounds in Deadwood.
