Course and history
The race is known as the 15 Kilo or the Kilo and follows a point-to-point route beginning in Spearfish Canyon and finishing in town. The course is almost identical to the historic route, with a change to the final mile because of added bike paths in Spearfish. The event was first held in 1968, created by a Black Hills State University head cross country and track coach, and later attracted more than 300 participants in some years. The Kilo was revived by the Black Hills Runners Club in 2020 after a period when it was not held. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
