Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half
The Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half are challenging trail running events held in Leadville, Colorado, featuring rugged courses through the historic mining district. The marathon covers 26.4 miles with an elevation gain of 6,167 feet, reaching the highest point at Mosquito Pass at 13,185 feet—the highest continuous pass in the U.S. The Heavy Half is 15.4 miles, sharing much of the marathon route but excluding the Ball Mountain section.
Both races offer well-marked trails, multiple aid stations, and a high-alpine environment with potential extreme weather. The event is known for its tough terrain, thin air, and scenic mountain views, making it one of the nation's most demanding trail marathons.
