Event overview
The Human Potential Running Series presents the Sawmill Trail Runs on December 6, 2025 at Staunton State Park in Pine, Colorado. The start and finish are at the Ranch Hand Group Picnic Area. The event offers the following distances:
- 50k
- 16-Mile
- 8-Mile
Runner capacity is 250 combined across all distances. Time limits are 12 hours for the 50k and 11 hours for the 8- and 16-mile events. The event was first held in 2013 and became an official trail race in 2017; it moved to Staunton State Park in 2021.
Logistics and race policies
Staunton State Park ranges from about 8,100 ft meadows to granite cliffs over 10,000 ft. Weather can vary widely in December; average high and low temperatures listed are 44°F and 17°F. Traction devices such as micro-spikes are allowed when conditions permit. Snowshoes are permitted if snow depths exceed 6 inches; other flotation devices are not approved. If deep snow makes the 50k first loop unsafe, 50k entrants may be directed to run the 16-mile course twice.
Included for participants are a gender specific race shirt and a finisher’s medal. Aid stations are described as well stocked. Spectators are allowed only at the start/finish area and must pay their own state park entry fees. Crews and pacers are prohibited. Parking inside the park is limited; most participants use an off-site park-and-ride and a volunteer shuttle. Drop bags are allowed only at the start/finish area. All finishers receive a unique finisher award; awards will not be mailed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
