The Georgia Death Race : March 28, 2026, Blairsville, GA
The Georgia Death Race is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon of about 74 miles from the Byron Herbert Reece Heritage Center in Blairsville to Amicalola Falls State Park. The course includes approximately 16,000 ft of climbing and 16,000 ft of descent. Runners are required to carry a 1 lb railroad spike for the duration of the race; finishers throw that spike in a designated location and receive an engraved spike. The event uses a 25-hour overall cutoff with additional hard cutoffs at aid stations. Pacers are not allowed. Course records are listed for the current 74-mile route: female 13:31:29 and male 11:26:54.
Race rules and logistics
Registration for 2026 is sold out and a waitlist is open until 6/1/25. All entrants for 2026 must complete a minimum of six hours of volunteering at any trail race or trail maintenance, or they may opt out by paying a $20 fee that will be donated to the Benton Mackaye Trail Association or Georgia SORBA; volunteer hours or the fee must be submitted by race day. Included with registration are a hat and a pint glass; additional merchandise may be purchased. Packet pickup is at Amicalola Lodge the Friday night before the race. The event provides maps, aid station breakdowns, and a runner handbook with detailed rules and cutoff times. Running the race in under 24 hours earns one entry ticket for the Western States Endurance Run lottery for 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
